Sluggish Bama Roused Enough For Close Win

Last Friday Alabama Coach Anthony Grant kept a couple of players out of the game, saying they needed a rest. On Sunday, it looked like a day of rest for all Crimson Tide players, even though they were on the court at Coleman Coliseum.

Three Former Tiders Named To ASHOF

Something has been made of Alabama having lost its last game in the Louisiana Superdome to Oklahoma in last year’s Sugar Bowl. More should be made of the number of national championships the Crimson Tide has won or validated in New Orleans.

Alabama Men, Women Basketball Teams Play

Sunday winds up pre-Christmas basketball for both the men’s and women’s Crimson Tide teams with both playing contests in Tuscaloosa.

Two Important Days Ahead For Alabama

The countdown until Christmas has been going on for at least a month, but there’s another countdown going on in Alabama football that has nothing to do with getting presents. There are only two more practices – Sunday and Monday – until the Crimson Tide gets a brief holiday break.

Alabama Defense Gets Ready In Red Zone

One of the themes of pre-Sugar Bowl conversation is that Ohio State is going up a very good Alabama defense when it comes to Red Zone efficiency. The way in which Red Zone defense is figured, it may be hard to see “What’s the big deal?” about Bama.

Tide Returns Home, Gets Win Over Stillman

In a youth movement of sorts, Alabama Coach Anthony Grant started three true freshmen Friday night against Division II cross-town foe Stillman, and the result was a convincing 69-49 Alabama win. The first five consisted of freshmen Justin Coleman, Riley Norris and little-used Devin Mitchell, to go with sophomore center Jimmie Taylor and senior captain Levi Randolph.

Saban Tiders Prominent On All-America Teams

There is some irony in Nick Saban’s recruiting strategy that includes always having an abundance of tight ends. Bama has had very good men at the tight end position in the Saban era, but it is the only posiition in which there has not been a first team All-America selection.

Tide Pass Defense Facing Strong-Armed QB

All-in-all, Alabama’s pass defense hasn’t been too bad this year. The Crimson Tide has held opponents to only 54.5 per cent success and has turned in 10 interceptions against 17 touchdowns. Still, the Tide has given up 223.8 passing yards per game.

Alabama Anxious To Be Back On Court

To say that Alabama’s men’s basketball team is coming off a disheartening loss is an understatement. Bama has not had much luck in road games, and the trip to Wichita State to play the 11th-ranked Shockers was a difficult task, but having an 11-point lead in the second half and managing to score only one point in the final six minutes of a one-point loss denied a monumental achievement.

Bama Has Full Gear Wednesday Practice

Following Alabama’s first bowl practice Tuesday, Crimson Tide Coach Nick Saban said the first “couple or three” practices would be working on fundamentals and techniques. On Wednesday Bama players did that work in full gear for two hours in the Hank Crisp Indoor Facility.

The secret is out

The secret is out

Teams that win state championships usually don’t have many “sleepers” on the roster, but small schools in Alabama playing in the AISA sometimes do. Edgewood Academy has won a handful of consecutive titles, and despite having some under-the-radar types on the roster, the secret is out for 6-foot-8, near 250-pound junior Prince Tega Junior.
