| One of the fastest men on the team, Sam was clocked at 4.42 in the NFL
trials held at Bama in the spring. Sam had shoulder surgery following last
season and missed all of spring practice. Following the 2000 spring he
had won the “Ray Perkins Most Improved Wide Receiver Award.” Last year
Sam had 18 catches, four for touchdowns. He averaged 14 yards per
catch. After being redshirted in 1998, he has been in the regular receiver
rotation. Sam has 38 career catches for 400 yards. As a prep star, he had
four state receiving records, including 3,844 career receiving yards, single
season yards of 1,574, single game 298, and five receiving touchdowns
in a game.
