| Lavar Edwards rushed for over 850 yards and 10 touchdowns at fullback as a junior but it will be interesting to see if he continues to pile up those kinds of numbers now that he will be seeing a lot of time at defensive end and tight end during his senior campaign; Edwards says he can bench 315 pounds. He claims a 27-inch vertical jump.
Partial senior (6-3) stats: 12 touchdowns on over 400 yards receiving.
Edwards: "I like to catch the ball. I've got good hands and go up and get the ball. I play real physical. On defense I can rush the passer really well.
"I need to get faster and lose some weight," he admitted. "At tight end I need to move better and be more agile."
Coach's Comments: “He’s the one that I think has the most upside of anybody because he can do it all," said Desire Street head coach Mickey Joseph. "I wish he would get a little meaner. He’s just such a nice kid."
"Lavar is a big kid and He’s a kid that can play every sport. He plays football. He’s a double-double-double in basketball. He throws a shot about 46-47 feet and he’s a kid that hits homeruns in baseball."
