| A very physical player who runs through his tackles, Johnson is also agile enough to change direction while in pursuit. He has soft hands and light feet, but is a heavy hitter who causes turnovers on contact. He is a little high on his run-throughs and this causes him to get chipped quite a bit, but he is strong enough to re-track in pursuit. 2008 Stats: 78 tackles, 32 assists, one fumble recovery, one blocked punt and 11 interceptions during his senior season.
2008 Awards: Selected to U.S. Army All-American Bowl Team; Andalusia Star News All County Team, Orlando Sentinel's All-Southern Team (AL), Press Register's Super Southeast 120 (#12), Parade All-American, High School Butkus Award Finalist, ASWA 4A First Team All-State.
2007:Nico Johnson made 80 tackles and blocked one field goal attempt during his junior season. He missed three games due to a partial tear in his MCL. Johnson was named ASWA first team All-State 4A as a sophomore and repeated the honor as a junior All-State first team selection linebacker in 2007. He benches 320-pounds, cleans 280, squats 645 and has an impressive 37-inch vertical jump.
Soph. stats (2006): Johnson recorded 113 solo tackles and 15 assists from his middle linebacker position.
Johnson reports a 2.8 core GPA and a 22 ACT.
Johnson: "I missed three games (knee and ankle injury) or I would have had a lot more tackles. I try to play aggressive and use my hands well. I run hard and give it my all. Defense is all about effort and I definitely give my best effort.
"I want to do everything better. I want to get my hands even better and I'd like to take on blockers better and get faster."
