"As soon as I cut, somebody was coming from the other direction and made
a cut down low and it broke my fibula," added Corvin Lamb. "Last year
it was my ankle, and now I having to deal with my fibula."
Lamb is also one of the top track runners in the sunshine state.
"It is a tough break, to be truthful, but God has a plan for me. I did get
to run in the 4 by 100, and we ran the fastest time all year. Everyone heavily
doubted us, so I am really proud that we won state. I was battling the same ankle
injury that I had in football last fall. I was sad at first (after I got hurt),
real sad, but I guess God has something in store for me. The only thing I can
do now is keep coming to practice and encouraging my teammates. I will be back
100% by August, so it is not all bad."
The injury has not slowed the college's interest in the N' Western High standout.
"There have been so many who have been by here. Oklahoma, Alabama, Florida,
FSU, Miami, Ole Miss, Notre Dame, UCF, Rutgers, just a little bit of everyone.
They all just told me to keep my head up and to go through rehab and come out
stronger than ever."
The 2008 All-Dade selection held offers from Vandy, Ole Miss, MSU, Michigan, Nebraska,
West Virginia, and North Carolina before spring ball. A few more have added their
name to the list.
"Rutgers and UCF said they are sending their offer in the mail. Syracuse
is sending one too. My latest offer I got was Louisville. I got that last Sunday."
What is going on with Louisville?
"I do not know anything about them, but I am probably going to go up there
and check on them. One of their main running backs is gone, so I will check into
them. I want to look at their roster and see how their coaches are. I will probably
give them a call in a few days."
Who is coming after Corvin the hardest right now?
"Probably Michigan, North Carolina, and Ole Miss."
What does he know about the University of Mississippi?
"I know that Ole Miss has a great defense, and they run the ball. I know
they are a tough team. I watched them beat Florida last year. They ball down there."
Any communication with their coaches?
"I talked to their coaches over the email almost every day. We write each
other back and forth. They want to get me down there for a visit, but I do not
know what my visits are going to look like this summer. I will probably wait until
the season to start my visits. I am going to a track school this summer. I am
going to go on a football scholarship, but if I can help the track program out,
I want to run track too. If they think I am fast enough, I want to help them out."
Which track programs are showing the most interest?
"LSU and FSU were the last coaches I talked to for track."
What is going on with Michigan?
"I have not talked to Michigan in a while. I will probably call them soon.
Torrian Wilson, my teammate, received an offer from them. We have been talking
about them a lot."
What about North Carolina?
"I talk to North Carolina real often. They are showing me a lot of interest.
They seem to really like me a lot. I like their offense and the way they use their
running backs."
Who are the other schools that are involved right now that Corvin is interested
in?
"Florida, Rutgers, FSU, Alabama, LSU, Oklahoma, and Oregon."
"Who is most likely to offer next?
"Probably Oregon or Florida. Florida told me it would be late November. I
will wait and see what happens with them. Oregon said they would probably offer
me soon."
What stands out about the Gators?
"They have a lot of speed, and I have a lot of speed. I like the way they
use Jeffrey Demps. I am pretty fast, not as fast as him (laugh), but I like how
they use him."
What about FSU?
"They have been recruiting me since 10th grade. They have been showing me
a lot of interest, but I have not been talking to their coaches on the phone or
anything. I just grew up rooting for FSU."
Alabama?
"I like the Crimson Tide. They always have great running backs. Recently
they have had a lot of running backs doing well."
LSU is recruiting Lamb in both track and football. What is going on with the Tigers?
"They have a great offense, staff, and a great track team. That just attracts
me all around."
When it does come decision time; what will be the main factors?
"I am looking for a school that is going to love me and not be afraid to
let a freshman start because I am ready to play right now. I just want to go somewhere
where they are going to let me work hard and not go off your name. I want to work
hard for my position. Whether it be a senior or a freshman, I just want the best
man to win the position, not by your name or seniority."
Which position is Corvin being recruited to play by the various colleges?
"A lot of them like me at running back at first, and if that does not work
out, I would move to slot. They also like me as a kick and punt returner, but
I would rather go in as a running back."
