Two days before the start of the season no one would say if A.J. Green would play on Saturday; not University officials – Not Green; not Mark Richt. Now we know why, but answers remain.
What is the deal? What is taking so long to say one way or another?
The NCAA – who/what else?
Its sad, really, this entire tale. A rumor, started by celebrity gossip organization TMZ and followed up on national television by ESPN and their ace reporter Joe Schad, placed Green at an agent-sponsored party in Miami. The only problem? The very next morning Green told me: “I’ve never been to Miami before.”
I believe Green.
Why? Because after a while you get to know the reputations of the players on the team. I’ve followed Green since he was a high school senior four years ago. I know people that know him. They giggle at the notion of Green on some trip to South Florida. Dude would rather be riding his four wheeler near his home outside of Ridgeville, in the middle-of-nowhere South Carolina.
But the troubling problem is that this matter, “investigated” more than a month ago, is still unresolved as it relates to Green. It seems to be an open-and-shut case. All the NCAA needs to do is produce the evidence that places Green in Miami (or places him in trouble) and rule him ineligible.
So do it then… make your call NCAA. Either book him or cut him loose because the season is upon us.
Green isn’t being suspended by Richt for “breaking team rules” the way players apparently involved in this mess at North and South Carolina have. Richt hasn’t said it and won’t, but he doesn’t buy this garbage, either.
But Georgia, for fear of a public relations or just fear of the NCAA, won’t dare cross the line. I don’t understand the holdup, but the only blame I find is with the NCAA – not Georgia or Green.
