The Tuscaloosa Tip-Off Club has established the Mikhail Torrance Fund to aid the former University of Alabama men’s basketball standout in his continued recovery from a near-fatal medical episode.

Mikhail Torrance, a native of Eight Mile, and four-year letterwinner for the Alabama men's basketball team, collapsed on the court while working out at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., on Aug. 20.

He has been in a Sarasota, Fla., area hospital since and has recently made significant progress towards recovery in the last 72 hours. Despite the progress he has made, Torrance and his family still face significant challenges in overcoming this serious and life-altering event. As such, 100 per cent of the contributions to the Mikhail Torrance Fund will go toward assisting Torrance and his family with his continued medical expenses and rehabilitation.

Contributions of any amount may be sent to

“The past week and a half has been tremendously emotional and prayer-filled by so many people across the country on behalf of Mikhail Torrance,” Alabama Basketball coach Anthony Grant said. “We are very encouraged by the progress he has made over the past several days in regards to his physical and cognitive well-being. Mikhail has always been a strong-willed person. We believe he will continue to face this challenge with a strong faith and a fighter’s mentality. We also realize the process of continued healing and rehabilitation will be very difficult and extensive. We are extremely appreciative of the generosity of the Tuscaloosa Tip-off Club in establishing The Mikhail Torrance Fund to assist Mikhail and his family in providing the care and services required on his road to recovery. It is our hope that the money raised here will aid in the process of restoring peace of mind and stability to the Torrance family under these very difficult circumstances.”

“Our family is very appreciative of the support we have received,” Torrance’s parents Leola and Michael said. “We ask for your continued thoughts and prayers at this very difficult time.”
