Alabama senior right side Alyssa Meuth was named to the 2010 Volleyball Preseason All-Southeastern Conference Team, which was announced by the league office on Tuesday. Meuth had a solid junior campaign for the Crimson Tide that was capped off by earning a spot on the 2009 All-SEC Second Team.

“It is an honor for Alyssa to named to this prestigious team,” said Alabama Coach Judy Green. “We are very proud of her.”

The Helotes, Texas native averaged 3.22 kills per set over the course of the season, while bettering that by averaging 3.53 kills per set in conference action, the sixth-best average in the league. Meuth also recorded a hitting percentage of .326 in SEC matches, which was good enough for fifth in the conference. She started 28 matches a season ago, collecting 106 digs, 40 total blocks, 19 service aces, and eight assists.

Meuth led Alabama in kills a season ago 17 times, while also collecting at least 10 kills in 23 matches. She put down a career-best 18 kills twice in 2009, doing so the first time on Sept. 5 against Jacksonville State and then again on Sept. 25 against South Carolina. Meuth also set career highs in services aces with four, digs with nine, and blocks with five last season.

Alabama is set to begin the 2010 season on Friday, Aug. 27 at the Hawkeye Invitational in Iowa City, Iowa. The Tide’s first match will be at 7 p.m. CT against host institution Iowa.
