What’s the point of having a Heisman Trophy tailback if you’re going to throw the ball every down? That may not be what happened. And don’t pay any attention to the news that Mark Ingram got the breath knocked out of him late in Alabama’s Saturday scrimmage.

In fact, don’t pay too much to scrimmage statistics ever. In the case of the scrimmage Alabama had at Bryant-Denny Stadium Saturday, all reporters are given are raw statistics. That means, there is no way to determine if statistics are accumulated by good players running it up on inexperienced and less talented players.

Alabama’s media relations office provided statistics from Saturday’s Crimson Tide scrimmage at Bryant-Denny Stadium. Although several hundred spectators were on hand, they did not include reporters.

Alabama Coach Nick Saban downplayed the late scrimmage injury to Mark Ingram. In the scrimmage, Ingram had only nine rushes for only 28 yards. And he was Bama's top rusher.

The statistics provided indicate that quarterbacks, particularly Greg McElroy and A.J. McCarron, and receivers, notably Julio Jones had a good day.

The statistics include 11-on-11 scrimmage work, situational drills, red zone work, goalline play, and two-minute practice. Here are the individual offensive and defensive statistics provided:
