Why Alabama: "I talked to my family about my decision. I have a couple of friends up there like B.J. [Scott], and I talk to Julio. They helped me with my decision. It felt like home. Coach Saban wants me to play running back. He thinks I am an all-around back. I can run with power, and I can catch the ball well out of the backfield. He also said they would put me in the slot and throw me the ball."
Strengths/Improvement: "My speed is pretty good. I play faster in the game. If I break loose, it's going to be hard to catch me. I am continuing to work on my speed and strength."
Coach Quotes (Head Coach Kerry Stevenson): "You think of Jerome Bettis with speed. I saw Jerome Bettis running the football, and that is what Jalston looks like. He looks like a big muscle with speed. He is so rangy. He catches the ball well. He can catch the ball out of the backfield. He can run fluid routes. Does a great job adjusting to the ball in the air.
"We ran into Jason Garrett from the Cowboys, and he said he didn't have anyone like him. He is the total package. He needs to mature, but he is a full grown man. He still is a kid. He plays around a lot. His better days are way ahead of him. You haven't seen a football player like he is going to be.
"In the weight room, he works his tail off and on the field. He has the killer instinct. He has a big heart as well. I don't see why Alabama wouldn't put him on offense. He ran a 4.68 in the 40 at the Scout combine a year ago. He is 6-foot, 252-pounds. He is definitely an offensive-minded person. He is going to excel on either side of the ball, but he is an offensive-minded person."
Andrew Bone says: "Fowler is a jumbo athlete who could play several positions. He is tough to tackle and has a lot of speed and quickness for his size. He reminds many of former Alabama fullback and now Pro Bowler Le'Ron McClain. He is a force with the ball in his hands, makes acrobatic catches and makes people miss in the open field."
