Hudson Adding Top Prospect

Posted Nov 12, 2009

Kaneisha Horn of Ramsay High School, a 2010 class top five nationally sought after women’s basketball prospect will officially sign her letter-of-intent with The University of Alabama on Friday morning. Horn talked about her decision.

Hailed as the top player in the state of Alabama, Kaneisha Horn will bring her versatile scoring to a program seeking a superstar talent absent from the program since Chicago's Dominique Canty ventured south to the Capstone in 1995. She text messaged ‘BAMA Magazine late Tuesday evening saying she committed to wear the Crimson and White.

The Tide will have prevailed over suitors from Auburn, Duke, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Maryland, Rutgers and UCLA to secure the signature of the elite 6-1 wing player. Horn officially visited only Rutgers (9/4) and Alabama (9/26).

“I had a lot of fun there. I got along with all the players and the coaches. Everybody was cool. I liked it a lot,” said Horn about her Alabama visit.

Her projected major is Sports Medicine and Physical Therapy. The coaching staff and home state allegiance were deciding factors in the initial attraction for the highly recruited Horn.

“I just felt comfortable when I talked to them,” she confessed.

Powerfully built yet nimble on her feet Horn’s strength and quickness will present matchup nightmares for SEC coaches. She is equally adept at scorching the nets from the perimeter with a step back trey or exploding by a defender with her first step on the way to an and-one three-point opportunity. While most players have a tendency to attack the goal with their dominant hand Horn drives and finishes with either according to Ramsay coach, Robert T. Mosley.

Although she’s played primarily in the post area during her formative basketball years, he moved her to the wing position after her sophomore season in hopes of elevating her stature among the scouting services and college recruiters. The visionary plan worked to perfection as the full dimension of her game was showcased on the AAU circuit prior to suffering an ACL and meniscus tear in her knee last December.

ESPN HoopGurlz presently lists her No. 5 overall and the No. 2 small forward, while BlueStar Basketball and the Collegiate Girls Basketball Report rankings are No 3/ No. 1 and No. 6/No. 1 respectively.

Nicknamed “Kane” after the WWE wrestler by her older brother Terrence “Diggie” Horn because he said she was a ‘beast on the court’, bodies fly when she initiates contact driving the lane.

Kaneisha is the genteel, reserved laid back Southern young lady respectfully addressing her elders with ‘yes, mam’ and ‘no, mam’.

“I’m Kane on-the-court and Kaneisha off-the-court,” she said contrasting the two personas.

Although a serious competitor prone to hard work, the polite prospect has a fondness for fun.

“I love to joke. I love to crack,” said the daughter of Ben and Connie Horn.

She considers her strength rebounding but loves to score, two of the valued skills a coach cherishes.
