Alabama's Vlachos SEC Lineman Of Week
William Vlachos

Alabama's Cory Reamer must wonder what a man must do to win a Southeastern Conference weekly award. Each week the SEC announces players of the week in various categories--offense, defense, special teams, offensive lineman, defensive lineman, and freshman. Undefeated Bama has won its share of awards, including one from last week's win at Ole Miss.
Alabama
linebacker
Cory Reamer
seemed like a likely award winner on special teams after he blocked a punt and caused and recovered a fumble on kickoff coverage. Following Bama's 22-3 win over
Ole Miss
in Oxford, Crimson Tide Coach
Nick Saban
called Reamer probably the best core player on special teams.
It's a touch task to choose SEC honorees each week, and the special teams winner--Arkansas return man
Dennis Johnson
, was certainly a worthy choice.
Alabama did produce the SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week. The league selected Bama sophomore center
William Vlachos
of Mountain Brook. Vlachos, 6-1, 294, did not allow a sack or get called for any penalties in Alabama's win. As a result he was selected by the Crimson Tide coaching staff as one of the weekly award winners for the second consecutive week.
Alabama totaled 354 yards with 200 of those coming on the ground. The Tide led time of possession by a 38:19 to 21:41 margin.
Vlachos helped clear the way for
Mark Ingram
’s 172-yard rushing performance. Ingram, a sophomore tailback, scored a key touchdown on a 36-yard run.
Also given honorable mention was Tide linebacker
Rolando McClain
, who had seven tackles (four solo and one for a loss) and an interception as the Tide shut down the Rebels' offense.
Other honorees were:
Offensive Player of the Week
Tennessee
quarterback
Jonathan Crompton
, Defensive Player of the Week
Florida
linebacker
Brandon Spikes
, Defensive Lineman of the Week
Kentucky
tackle
Corey Peters
, and Freshman of the Week
South Carolina
wide receiver Alshon Jeffery.
