The Southeastern Conference didn't select any Alabama players for their weekly honors, which was understandable given the magnitude of some games and the fact Bama was playing North Texas. The SEC did mention defensive tackle Terrence Cody and cornerback and return man Javier Arenas for outstanding performances.

The Alabama coaching staff recognized seven players of the week following the Crimson Tide’s 53-7 win over North Texas on Saturday.

Quarterback Greg McElroy and tight end Colin Peek were selected as the offensive players of the week. McElroy tied the school completion percentage record (minimum 10 completions), going 13 for 15 (86.7 per cent) for 176 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran for a two-yard score. Peek caught two passes for 26 yards with both receptions resulting in first downs. He also did an outstanding job of blocking in the running game.

On defense, nose tackle Terrence Cody and strong safety Mark Barron were honored. Cody clogged the middle of the line and helped grind the UNT running game to a halt. He had a career-best five tackles with three solo stops and one tackle for loss as the Mean Green only managed 61 yards of rushing. Barron also accounted for five tackles with three solo stops and a TFL (for a loss of 10 yards). He also broke up a game-high two passes from his strong safety position.

The trio of Javier Arenas, Robby Green and Chris Jordan were given special teams honors. Arenas accounted for 151 return yards with a 61-yard kickoff return and four punt returns for 90 yards. It was his fourth-highest all-purpose yard total at Alabama. Green and Jordan were also playmakers on the coverage units with big hits and quality tackles.
