Tide Men's Golf Leads Big Tourney

Rocky Face, Ga.- TheUniversity of Alabama men’s golf team, ranked fourth in the nation, sits atop the leader board after round one at the Carpet Capital Collegiate, shooting a 289 (+1) on the Farm Golf Course Friday.
The
Alabama
Crimson Tide team of Coach Jay Seawell holds a one-shot lead over
Clemson
,
South Carolina
and
Tennessee
, who are all tied for second at 290 (+2).
Redshirt freshman Lee Knox, making his first collegiate start, led the Tide with a 2-under-par 70. Knox played solid from start to finish with only one bogey, and he birdied two of the four par-fives to finish the day with three birdies in all.
Sophomore Hunter Slatton and redshirt freshman Scott Strohmeyer each posted even-par 72s. Slatton sank a team-high six birdies with Strohmeyer right behind him with five birdies. Strohmeyer took advantage of the course’s longest holes, posting birdies all four par fives.
Sophomores Spencer Cole and Hunter Hamrick shot identical rounds of 75 (+3) to round out the Tide lineup. Both players made three birdies on the round.
Second round action tees off tomorrow at 8 a.m. CST. Alabama begins its round at 8:50 a.m. Live stats and updates will be available at golfstat.com.
Alabama is playing without its top player, Bud Cauley, who is preparing to play in the Walker Cup matches on Saturday.
