The University of Alabama will challenge other schools in the region for prospects as several spring games are taking place including Auburn, Florida, LSU, Mississippi State and Tennessee.
The in-state recruits in Tuscaloosa will feature Jarrick Williams, safety from Prichard-Blount, C.J. Mosley, linebacker from Theodore, Craig Sanders, defensive end from Ariton, Ladarius Owens, linebacker from Bessemer-Jess Lanier, Wilson Love, defensive end from Mountain Brook, Corey Grant, running back from Opelika, Jalston Fowler, running back from Prichard-Vigor and Solomon Patton, wide receiver from Mobile-Murphy.
Other top in-state prospects include Ryan Smith, safety from Cordova, Desmond Brown, safety from Centre-Cherokee County, Dale Trimble, cornerback from Gadsden City, B.J. Chitty, wide receiver from Dothan-Northview, Marteze Jackson, defensive end from Demopolis, Sam Gibson, quarterback from Prattville, Marquee Reddrick, defensive tackle from Clay Chalkville, Nolen Smith, wide receiver from Oneonta and Jackie Williams, wide receiver from Prichard-Vigor.
A few of the elite 2011 players who are scheduled to attend Saturday’s A-Day game include Marvin Shinn, wide receiver from Vigor, Darryl Collins, wide receiver from Gadsden City and Enrique Florence, safety from Valley. Shinn recently collected his first offer from Alabama.
Demarcus Milliner, safety from Millbrook-Stanhope Elmore, will miss due to track. He will attend the FoxSports/Scout.com Southeast Elite camp in Tuscaloosa the following day.
Nick Perry, safety from Prattville, is on a family vacation. He might make the trip to Tuscaloosa Saturday for the A-Day game, but he is expected for the FoxSports/Scout.com camp Sunday.
Alabama is hitting the state of Georgia extremely hard this year. They have already collected commitments from Ronald Carswell, wide receiver from Macon-Westside, Blake Sims, quarterback from Gainesville and Austin Shepherd, offensive guard from Suwanee-North Gwinnett. All three are expected in Tuscaloosa.
Markeith Ambles, wide receiver from McDonough-Henry County and Da’ Rick Rogers, from Calhoun, are scheduled to visit Saturday. Mack Brown, from Lithonia-King, has offers from schools across the country including one from the Tide. Brown was scheduled to visit Tuscaloosa last weekend, but will trip this Saturday to A-Day instead.
Other top Georgia prospects expected include Garry Peters, cornerback from Conyers-Heritage, JaWuan James, offensive tackle from Suwanee-North Gwinett, Brandon Burrows, defensive end from Marietta-Walton, Nash Nance, quarterback from Calhoun, Victor Beasley, linebacker from Adairsville, Neiron Ball, linebacker from Jackson and J.C. Copeland, linebacker from LaGrange-Troup County.
Coach Nick Saban landed the No. 2 running back in the country from the Sunshine State in 2009 with Trent Richardson. The Tide staff is back in Florida with several prospects who plan the trip to Tuscaloosa: DeJoshua Johnson, wide receiver from Pahokee and Chris Dunkley, wide receiver from Royal Palm Beach. Gio Bernard, running back and Michael Palardy, kicker from Ft. Lauderdale-St. Thomas Aquinas.
Alabama signed Rod Woodson, Scout.com four-star safety from Olive Branch, Miss., in 2009, and hopes to pull in teammate Damien Robinson, five-star offensive tackle. Vincent Sanders, wide receiver from Macon-Noxubee County, Asian Ruff, wide receiver from Fulton-Itawamba Agricultural, are both expected from Mississippi as well.
The state of Tennessee is home to several prospects Alabama is recruiting which include Harrison Jones, tight end from Cordova-Evangelical Christian, Fred Harvey, from Memphis-White Station and Keiwone Malone, wide receiver from Memphis-Mitchell Road. All have plans to attend A-Day and compete in the FoxSports/Scout.com camp on Sunday.
Jones is the younger brother of Alabama offensive lineman Barrett Jones. Malone committed to Alabama early in the recruiting process. Ferlando Bohanna, linebacker from Memphis-Whitehaven, gained his first offer from North Carolina. All of the Tennessee prospects in Tuscaloosa Saturday will stay overnight to compete in the FoxSports/Scout.com Southeast Elite camp on Sunday.
Additional out-of-state prospects visiting Tuscaloosa who hold scholarships offers from Alabama include William Gholston, defensive end from Detroit -Southeastern, Mich., Eric Mack, offensive tackle from St. Matthews-Calhoun County, S.C., Chad Lindsay, offensive guard and Tide commitment from The Woodlands, Texas and DeAndrew White, wide receiver from Galena Park-North Shore, Texas.
Most of the Crimson Tide’s signing class are expected to attend A-Day including Dre Kirkpatrick, Rod Woodson, Anthony Orr, William Ming, Trent Richardson, Jonathan Atchison, Kenny Bell and Eddie Lacy.
