Alabama Director of Athletics Mal Moore announced Thursday details of a reorganization of the Athletic Department. The changes will impact the entire department, with particular emphasis on a streamlined structure for the department’s executive staff.

Alabama Athletics Director Mal Moore announced that Executive Director of Athletics Dave Hart has now officially become the department’s chief operating officer, and is in charge of the daily operations of the athletics department.

Moore will maintain oversight of the Department of Athletics while prioritizing his focus on fundraising and facilities enhancements.

“Back in the summer, I had a special opportunity to hire a person in Dave Hart who has a strong leadership background, who also has Alabama ties and is a friend of mine,” said Moore. “I saw a chance for us to add a person who could really strengthen an already strong administrative group. If the expansion to Bryant-Denny Stadium comes online, this will allow me to focus on supporting Associate Athletics Director for Development Ronny Robertson in his fund-raising efforts while also closely monitoring the progress of our coaches and our teams.

“I plan to be in this chair for several more years. This is a pivotal moment in the history of Alabama athletics, and I didn’t want to miss a chance to hire a person of Dave’s caliber to help shape the future of the program. This is all about what is good for Alabama athletics. It’s something I wanted to do for a while now and I am excited about the possibilities.”

Under this new structure all members of the executive staff, including the compliance office, will report directly to Hart, who reports directly to Moore.

“It is a privilege for me to be in a position to assist Mal in carrying out his vision for the Crimson Tide athletic program,” said Hart. “It is a very exciting time to be back at The University of Alabama.”

Hart, a former Alabama basketball player and coach, is from a family of athletics administrators. He formerly served as director of athletics at Florida State.

Hart appears to be the point man on Alabama's search for a new men's basketball coach to replace Mark Gottfried. Gottfried recently was forced to resign.
