As a sophomore D.J. Fluker, was part of one of the most feared defensive lines in the state alongside current Alabama player, Glenn Harbin, at Mobile's McGill-Toolen. Then, things changed. Fluker announced due to "family matters" he would transfer to Biloxi, Miss. where he spent his junior year. Things changed again. Fluker has been through a journey to become a Tide signee for the class of 2009.

D.J. Fluker was used more on the offensive side of the football at tackle as well as playing defensive line in Miss. At the time, Alabama was recruiting him heavily, but as a possible nose guard.
