Ingram Named SEC Freshman Of Week

Each week the Southeastern Conference selects top performers in several categories for Player of the Week citations. It’s hard for an Alabama to get an award in an apparent romp over a team from a mid-level conference, but the Crimson Tide picked one up this week.

Alabama freshman tailback Mark Ingram had his first 100-yard rushing game in the Crimson Tide’s 35-0 win over Arkansas State Saturday. Ingram, a 5-10, 215-pounder from Flint, Mich., had 12 carries for 113 yards and two touchdowns.

He scored Bama’s final two touchdowns on runs of five and 17 yards and now leads the team with eight rushing scores.

That performance earned him the SEC Freshman of the Week award.

Ingram ranks second in rushing for Alabama with 533 yards this season.

Under the “Other Outstanding Performances category was Alabama safety Rashad Johnson, who was in on 13 tackles (eight primary) with 2.5 tackles for losses and had a pass deflection and an interception which he returned 32 yards for a touchdown.

Johnson is a senior from Sulligent.
