By
SEC Media Relations
Posted Oct 12, 2008
Each Sunday the Southeastern Conference releases football notes on the 12 league teams. Alabama did not play this Saturday, but returns to action at 2:30 p.m. CDT Saturday against Ole Miss in Bryant-Denny Stadium. CBS will televise the game. Bama is 6-0, including a 3-0 SEC record, and ranked second in the nation.
The SEC has five teams ranked in this week's Associated Press, USA Today and Harris Interactive polls. The league has three teams in the top 10 -
Alabama
(2nd in all three polls),
Florida
(5th - AP, 6th - Harris, 7th - USA Today) and
Georgia
(9th - Harris; 9th - USA Today; 10th - AP).
LSU
is 12th in Harris, 13th in AP and 14th in USA Today while
Vanderbilt
is 22nd in AP and Harris and 23rd in USA Today.
The SEC continues to have the nation's best non-conference winning percentage. The SEC is 27-5 (.844) against non-league foes. Since conference expansion in 1992, the SEC has won 76.0 (616-194-2) of all if its non-conference games (including bowl games).
The SEC remains one of the most competitive conferences in the nation. In 20 intra-conference games, 14 have been decided by 10 points or less, the highest percentage (70.0) of any conference that has played more than seven conference games. The average scoring margin in SEC games is 10.30, which is the lowest of any conference that has played more than seven games. The Big East has averaged 6.83 points in six games with five games of a 10-points or less margin.
The SEC is the only conference this year to have all of its teams receive votes at one point during the season. The SEC also leads the nation with the most teams ranked in the major polls at any point this season - 8.
In 43 home games, the SEC is averaging 76,814 fans per game at a 98.41 percent capacity. The SEC stadiums have drawn 3,302,987 fans in the first seven weeks.
Georgia senior wide receiver
Mohamed Massaquoi
is this week's SEC Community Service Team Player of the Week and will be featured during this week's Raycom Sports telecast of the Vanderbilt at Georgia game.
Florida's
Tim Tebow
has 81 career touchdowns responsible (34 rush, 47 pass), which is tied for 9th in SEC history. He is also ninth all-time in the SEC among rushing yards by quarterbacks with 1,543 yards.
South Carolina
's
Kenny McKinley
needs 15 catches to move into the SEC career top 10 in receptions. He has 173 career receptions for 2,345 yards.
Kentucky
's
Trevard Lindley
has 30 career pass deflections, just five short of the SEC Top 10.
Georgia's 10:55 drive against
Tennessee
is the longest drive (by time) in the SEC since LSU had an 11:02 drive against
Arizona State
in the season opener of the 2005 season.
The average SEC game lasts 3:11 with an average of 7.79 scores and 24.72 possessions per game. Last year, SEC games were 3:23 and averaged 9.31 scores and 25.83 possessions per game.
SEC teams have combined to score 30 non-offensive touchdowns this season (18 defense, 3 on kickoff/fumble kick returns, 9 on punt/blocked punt/FG returns). Every team has a non-offensive touchdown in the SEC except
