Alabama senior libero Amy Pauly was named SEC Defensive Player of the Week as announced by the league office Monday. Pauly, who has earned this honor four times before, anchored the Tide defense as it went 2-1 at the Hurricane Invitational Sept. 5 and 6.
“I thought Amy’s play was pivotal in our team's success this past weekend,” said
Alabama
coach Judy Green. “She made great strides in practice last week, and if she continues to get better it will help our team continue to get better.”
Pauly recorded a total of 49 digs, seven assists and four service aces in the four-team tournament that featured Alabama,
Miami
, South Dakota State and Virginia Commonwealth. She set a season-high 20 digs against the Hurricanes and tallied six assists, one shy of her career high, against the Rams. Pauly currently leads the team this season in digs with 76 and is second in assists with 13.
The volleyball team returns to action Friday and Saturday when it hosts the Crimson Tide Invitational for its final non-conference matchups before heading into SEC competition. The Tide plays Samford at 1:00 p.m. (CDT) and
South Florida
at 7:00 p.m. (CDT) Friday and closes the tournament with Murray State at 1:00 p.m. (CDT) on Saturday. Tickets for all matches will be available at the door. Contact the Alabama Ticket Office at 1-877-TIDETIX or visit www.rolltide.com for more information. In addition, all fans who present a football ticket at the door will be let in free of charge.
