Tide Coaches Pick Seven For Awards
Rolando McClain repeats for weekly honor

Almost everyone would agree that Alabama played better football in its first game of the season than in its second game. But the Alabama coaching staff found one more player to honor for the Tide's play against Tulane than had been the case against Clemson.
Alabama
coaches announced seven players for their weekly honors following the Crimson Tide's 20-6 win over
Tulane
Saturday night.
It was no surprise that
Javier Arenas
was named a player of the week for special teams by Bama coaches. Arenas also won that honor from the Southeastern Conference after he returned punts for a school record 147 yards, including an 87-yard touchdown return.
Joining Arenas for Alabama coaches' honors on special teams were
Roy Upchurch
and
Chris Rogers
. They contributed a Tide touchdown when Upchurch blocked a punt into the hands of Rogers, who ran it into the end zone.
Against
Clemson
, Alabama's
Mike Johnson
was the SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week, but wasn't cited by Tide coaches. This week he was the lone recipient of honors from the coaching staff for offensive play. He moved into Andre Smith's spot at left tackle against Tulane.
Three Tide players were cited by the coaches on defense. They were linebacker
Rolando McClain
, linebacker
Cory Reamer
, and safety
Rashad Johnson
.
McClain led the team with 15 tckles; Reamer had seven tackles, including two for losses totaling 10 yards, and a sack (-8); and Johnson had nine tackles and broke up a pass.
McClain is the only Tide player who has been cited by the Alabama coaching staff for his play in both games.
