Tide Welcomes Campers
Two top in-state prospects, Dre Kirkpatrick and Kendall Kelly from Gadsden City, will participate in the camp and not just spectators. Both prospects have received offers from across the country, but do not list any favorites. Other Titans expected include Darrell Smith, Chris Thornton and Kelvin James. Nico Johnson Nico Johnson, five-star linebacker from Andalusia, and Tana Patrick, five-star from North Jackson, are expected on campus. Johnson has the Tide as one of five favorites and plans to participate in the camp. Patrick does not list any favorites, but Alabama is one of the top three schools pressing hard for his signature. He is expected Sunday as a spectator only. Anthony Orr Several prospects who participated in the Under Armour/Scout.com combine in Mobile are expected including Gerald West, three-star cornerback from Davidson, and Anthony Orr, three-star defensive end from Sparkman. Both West and Orr hold offers from Alabama and plan to participate in the camp. Kenneth Carter, defensive tackle from Greenville, is expected and projects as a class of 2010 national recruit. Quinton Dial A lot of eyes will focus on at least three prospects who expect to make a decision before the end of summer: William Ming, Scout.com four-star defensive end from Athens, Quinton Dial, three-star defensive tackle from Clay-Chalkville and Tim Simon, running back from Cordova. Dial and Ming are not expected to participate in the camp and will arrive as spectators only. AJ McCarron Alabama commitment AJ McCarron, four-star quarterback from St. Paul's in Mobile, plans to participate for a couple of days. Mardrecas Hood Mardrecas Hood, wide receiver from Pickens County, plans to work on more than a verbal offer by showcasing his skills to the Alabama coaching staff during the camp. Damario Jeffrey Alabama fans have been hearing names from the Carolinas throughout the spring. A few of the prospects headed to Tuscaloosa include Damario Jeffrey, four-star linebacker from Columbia, Alshon Jeffrey, four-star wider receiver from St. Matthews-Calhoun County, David Sims, safety from St. Matthews-Calhoun County and Stephon Gilmore, four-star wide receiver from Rock Hill-South Pointe. The Tide coaching staff was very successful in the Sunshine State in 2008 by landing prospects like Star Jackson and Melvin Ray. They hope for continued success in the talent rich state for the class of 2009. Olivier Vernon Some of the headliners planning to arrive include Ricardo Dixon, four-star cornerback from Hallandale, Olivier Vernon, four-star defensive end from Miami-American Heritage, Frank Crawford, three-star safety from Miami-Gulliver Prep, Frankie Telfort, four-star linebacker from Miami-Gulliver Prep and Jon Bostic, four-star linebacker from Wellington-Palm Beach Central. Tennessee head coach Phillip Fulmer lost three of the top four players in his home state to the Crimson Tide in 2008. Alabama head coach Nick Saban hopes to continue to pull off that much success on an annual basis in the SEC power state. Gene Robinson Two Tennessee elite performers expected to camp include Gene Robinson, cornerback from Memphis-Whitehaven, and Eric Gordon, four-star cornerback from Nashville-Hillsboro. Both hold several scholarship offers including one from the Tide. Justin Green Alabama received an unofficial visit Thursday from Sam Simpson, four-star prospect from Lexington-Henry Clay, (Ky.), who is the No.1 rated center in the country. Another Bluegrass State product who will travel to Tuscaloosa is Justin Green, four-star cornerback from Louisville-Male. Green will camp at Alabama beginning Sunday. Anthony Steen Two big name prospects from the Magnolia State include Anthony Steen, offensive guard from Clarksdale-Lee County, and Fletcher Cox, three-star defensive end from Yazoo City. Both have offers from Alabama with Cox committed to Mississippi State, but he plans to take all five official visits. Nigel Mitchell-Thornton A couple of Georgia natives who have confirmed their attendance include Justin Jones, tight end from Conyers-Heritage, and Nigel Mitchell Thornton, three-star linebacker from Stone Mountain-Stephenson. Montrell Conner Alabama head coach Nick Saban knows the state of Louisiana very well, and he hopes to have success each year down on the Bayou. Expected campers include Janzen Jackson (LSU verbal), four-star cornerback from Lake Charles-Alfred Barbe, Kenny Bell, four-star wide receiver from Rayville and Montrell Conner, four-star running back from Monroe-Ouachita Parish. Jonathan McKnight, Joe McKnight's younger brother and 2010 prospect, will attend camp as well. Stavion Lowe Two elite prospects from outside the region planning to arrive include Stavion Lowe, four-star offensive guard from Brownwood, Texas, and Mike Marrow, three-star fullback from New Albany, Ohio. Scout.com confirmed the unofficial visit of Sam Simpson, and few other players visited the Capstone as well. Jordan Barnes Jordan Barnes, three-star linebacker from Ft. Wayne-Homestead, (Ind.), visited Thursday. Barnes ranks Alabama at the top of the list with Michigan. Bobby Massie Another intriguing prospect who visited is Bobby Massie from Lynchburg (Va.) Christian Academy. Massie will enroll at Hargrave Military Academy in the fall and was ranked as a four-star and No. 13 offensive guard in the country. He did not sign a letter of intent out of high school. This is not a complete list of players expected to participate in the camp or take unofficial visits to Tuscaloosa this weekend and next week.
