Nationally second-ranked Alabama quickly disposed of Troy 11-0 in a six-inning shutout Thursday night in front of a Troy school-record crowd of 1,025 at the Trojan Softball Complex.
The Crimson Tide improved to 36-3 on the season and ran their all-time record against the Trojans to 11-0.
Alabama
has reeled off 15-straight wins while
Troy
falls to 24-18.
Kelsi Dunne (15-3) got the win in her 18th start of the season as she tossed five-scoreless innings and allowed just one hit. Chrissy Owens came on in relief and worked the final two innings, holding Troy hitless while surrendering just one walk and striking out one.
Ashlyn Williams took the loss for the Trojans to fall to 20-11 on the season. She allowed six runs – four earned - in four innings before giving way to Cassie Lassister in the fifth. Lassister allowed five unearned runs on three hits with two walks.
Alabama pounded out 10 hits with reigning national player of the week Charlotte Morgan turning in a 3-for-4 night at the plate.
It didn’t take the Crimson Tide long to rattle the cage of Troy starter Williams with four-straight hits to open the game. The big blow was three-hole hitter Dani Woods’ three-run home run to straight-away center field.
Morgan drove in her 49th run of the season in the second inning with a two-strike, opposite field single that plated Brittany Rogers, who was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning.
Alabama tacked on another run in the third inning when Katie Johnson took a little bad luck and turned it into a RBI double off the left-center field wall. Johnson was struck in the left side of the face, but the home plate umpire rule it her bat first for a foul ball.
Two pitches later, an upset Johnson crushed a line-drive off the wall for the Tide’s fifth run. She then swiped third base and came around to score on an errant throw from the catcher to make it 6-0 Alabama through three innings.
The Tide shut the door on the Trojans in the top of the sixth inning with five runs on three hits and the benefit of two Troy errors. The inning was highlighted by a RBI single off the bat of Ashley Holcombe and a RBI double from Alex Blewitt.
Alabama continues its seven-game road trip on Saturday, April 12, with a doubleheader at
Auburn
with a 1 p.m. first pitch scheduled at Jane B. Moore Field.
