Alabama sophomore pitcher/first baseman Charlotte Morgan was named the Southeastern Conference Softball Player of the Week after a huge weekend against No. 10 LSU, the conference office announced on Monday.
Charlotte Morgan did a little bit of everything for
Alabama
against the Tigers with a 2-0 record in the circle and a .500 (5 for 10 average at the plate. It was the Moreno Valley, Calif. natives, second SEC Player of the Week honor in the past three weeks. Morgan was also honored after hitting four home runs and driving in 12 runs in a three-game sweep at
Kentucky
on March 21-22.
“Charlotte was amazing against
LSU
,” Alabama Coach Patrick Murphy said. “You couldn’t ask for more out of one player and then to do it against a team the quality of LSU was really something special.”
She started and won the second and third games of the LSU series in the circle, allowing just one run in two complete-game performances that spanned 12 innings with eight strikeouts. Morgan threw a five-inning shutout in the second game of a doubleheader on Saturday and then surrendered just one run on four hits in a seven-inning complete game against the Tigers on Sunday as the Tide completed the sweep.
At the plate, Morgan collected five extra-base hits in 10 at bats with three doubles and two home runs. She drove in six runs over the weekend with a 1.400 on-base percentage, three runs scored and a .583 on-base mark.
Morgan’s first home vs. LSU in the opening game of a doubleheader on Saturday was a three-run, walk-off shot in the bottom of the 10th inning that completed a miraculous comeback win for the Tide.
She now has a team-best 48 RBI, 14 doubles and 10 home runs on the season with a .417 overall batting average and a .420 mark in SEC play.
Alabama begins a seven-game road trip on Thursday at
Troy
. From Troy, the Crimson Tide ventures to
Auburn
for a three-game SEC series that gets underway on Saturday at 1 p.m. from Jane B. Moore Field. Alabama then makes its third trip to Birmingham this season for a game with the USA Olympic softball team at Liberty Park on Tuesday, April 15, at 6:30 p.m. and wraps up the road trip at
Arkansas
for a doubleheader on April 17.
