Tide Women's Golf Hosts Tournament

The No. 7 ranked Alabama women’s golf team will host its only spring tournament of the season with the Crimson Tide Classic. The classic will feature 12 teams and will begin on Friday, April 4, with the final round slated for Sunday, April 6. All three rounds will be played at the par-72, 6494 yard Ol’ Colony Golf Course.
The Tide enters the Crimson Tide Classic as the highest ranked team in the 12-team field.
Alabama
, coached by Mic Potter, is ranked 13th in the most recent Golfweek poll and No. 7 by Golfstat. The Tide will be tested by SEC-west rivals
LSU
, who come in ranked 20th.
Other teams competing in the tournament include
Ole Miss
and
Kentucky
from the SEC as well as
UAB
,
South Alabama
, Samford, Jacksonville State and
Troy
, all hailing from the state of Alabama. Stetson, Murray State and
Boston College
will make the trek to Tuscaloosa this weekend.
Ole Miss, Stetson and South Alabama will start the classic off with a 7:40 a.m. tee time on Friday. Kentucky, Samford and Jacksonville State will follow at 8:30 a.m. and then LSU, Murray State and Troy at 9:40 with host Alabama, UAB and Boston College slated for a 10:30 a.m. tee off.
Two Tide golfers have vaulted into the top 10 in the nation in major statistical categories. Kathleen Ekey ranks fourth nationally in greens in regulation, and Helena Blomberg is sixth in the country in putts on greens in regulation according to Golfsat.com.
As a team, Alabama currently holds three top 10 spots in key statistics. The Tide ranks fifth overall in par-4 scoring, sixth in greens in regulation, and seventh in putts on greens in regulation.
The Tide nabbed its third top five finish of the spring season at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic last time out. Alabama posted a three-day score of 912 (+48) good for a third-place finish. Kathleen Ekey, Laura Goodwin and Rhea Nair all finished in the top 15 of the individual standings for the Tide.
Junior transfer Kathleen Ekey led the Tide at the Liz Murphey Classic finishing in a tie for third-place with a four-over par 220 for the tournament. Ekey used a final round 71 (-1), the best of the tournament for Alabama, to climb up the leaderboard.
Coming off two straight top 10 finishes, sophomore Rhea Nair put together another solid outing finishing tied for 15th place with a 229 (+13).
