Alabama Coach Nick Saban and his staff put the team through a two-hour workout that consisted of approximately 125 plays from scrimmage plus special teams work on Saturday at Bryant-Denny Stadium. Here are statistics from that scrimmage.



Saturday’s Alabama scrimmage started with the Crimson Tide in game-like conditions with the first team offense facing the second team defense followed by the second team offense going against the first team defense. From there, the team went to a situational scrimmage, focusing on third down situations, the two-minute drill and red zone offense. The team also worked on special teams.

Senior quarterback John Parker Wilson threw for 151 yards and receiver Mike McCoy caught four passes for 43 yards. The running game was highlighted by Terry Grant’s 41 yards and two touchdowns on 12 carries, scoring on runs of 31 and 2 yards. Redshirt freshman receiver A.J. Walker had the game’s longest play, a 60-yard catch and run for a touchdown on a pass from Nick Fanuzzi during third-team versus third-team scrimmaging.

Darius Hanks had a solid day with three catches for 40 yards while Brandon Gibson caught two passes for 36 yards, including a 31-yard reception.

Defensively, the Crimson Tide totaled seven interceptions and 11 sacks on the day. Junior cornerback Javier Arenas led the way with a pair of interceptions and also had four tackles. Rolando McClain and Charlie Higgenbotham led all tackles with six stops apiece. Safety Justin Woodall also had a good afternoon with five tackles and an interception while Lorenzo Washington added two sacks from his noseguard position.

Terry Grant – 12 rush, 41 yards, 2 TDs; Roy Upchurch – 7 rush, 17 yards; Jonathan Lowe – 3 rush, 14 yards; Jeramie Griffin – 11 rush, 11 yards; Chris Scott – 1 rush, 7 yards.

RECEIVING Mike McCoy – 4 rec., 43 yards; Darius Hanks – 3 rec., 40 yards; Travis McCall – 3 rec., 30 yards;

Marquis Maze – 3 rec., 17 yards; A.J. Walker – 1 rec., 60 yards, 1 TD.

FIELD GOALS

Leigh Tiffin – Made: 49, 22, 47; Missed: 47, 40.  Corey Smith – Made: 20; Missed: 27

PUNTS

P.J. Fitzgerald – 3 punts, 119 yards, 39.7-yard average.  Heath Thomas – 4 punts, 149 yards, 37.3-yard average.
