Charlotte Morgan powered the No. 2 Alabama softball team to a commanding three-game sweep of Kentucky over the weekend, and was rewarded for her efforts on Monday as the Southeastern Conference named her the league Player of the Week.

Morgan, a native of Moreno Valley, Calif., hit an astonishing .700 (7 for 10) for Alabama against the Wildcats with four home runs, 12 RBI, six runs scored, two doubles and a stolen base.

The sophomore tied a UA school record with multiple home runs in back-to-back games on Saturday. As a team, the Crimson Tide tied and then set the school mark for home runs in a game. Alabama blasted five home runs in the opening game of a doubleheader on March 22, tying the school record, and followed that up with six in the nightcap to establish the record.

After going 2 for 4 with a RBI and a run scored in the series opener on March 21, Morgan exploded in Saturday’s doubleheader. She was 2 for 3 with two home runs and six RBI in the opening game and then went 3 for 3 in game two with a walk, three runs scored and five RBI.

Morgan is hitting .400 (34 for 85) for the season with a team-best seven home runs, 37 RBI and 10 doubles while slugging .765.

She becomes the fourth Alabama player to earn SEC honors this season with Brittany Rogers (2/18) and Kelley Montalvo (3/10) earning player of the week honors, while Kelsi Dunne was named the Freshman of the Week on Feb. 25.

The No. 2 Crimson Tide hosts UAB at the Alabama Softball Complex at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, and then welcomes Ole Miss to Tuscaloosa for a three-game series beginning with a doubleheader at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
