Kerry Murphy
6-5, 317 OL/DL
Hargrave Military (Chatham, Va.)
Hoover High School

Why Alabama: "I was never going anywhere else. It has always been Alabama for me."

On coach Nick Saban as a recruiter: "I didn't talk to coach Saban much. He needed to worry about other recruits. He didn't need to worry about me because I was going to Alabama. I did talk to coach [Kevin] Steele a lot."

Kerry Murphy has spent the last year at Hargrave Military after failing to meet entrance qualifications at the University of Alabama with the class of 2007. He reported with us February 5 as on track to arrive at the Capstone in June.
Murphy was one of Hoover's most decorated players as a Parade All-American, Birmingham News All-Metro Team, rated as the top prospect on the Birmingham News Super Senior list and one of 11 defensive tackles on the Atlanta Journal-Constitution's Super Southern 100, rated No. 3 by the Mobile (Ala.) Press-Register's Elite 18 players in the state of Alabama and rated as the 15th best defensive tackle in the nation by Scout.com.
Analysis: Kerry Murphy is a very athletic big man who has lost 10 pounds since his arrival at Hargrave. He still needs to shed a few pounds to become the dominating defensive lineman he was during the junior season in high school. Murphy is one of the most agile players for his size and known for turning backflips.
