"Best recruiting class in America"
Posted Feb 6, 2008
Chris Jackson signed and faxed his letter of intent and is already enrolled in school for the Spring semester at the University of Alabama. Jackson's coach talks with Scout.com about his star player.
6-1, 190, WR/DB
Henry County (McDonough, Ga.)
Scout.com four-star recruit
"Alabama is a great program with tremendous tradition. I look forward to playing football for coach Saban and his staff. I’m honored to be a part of the best recruiting class in America."
Coach Mike Rozier:
"First of all he was an outstanding player for us and more importantly an outstanding person. He is a good student on-and-off the field. He conducted himself like a young man, and he had a tremendous year for us."
"He played both sides of the ball for us. He was a leader. He was one of our captains, so that tells you what kind of kid he is. He just had a great career for us."
"He committed to
early on, and they had a coaching change. I think probably just [coaches] Kirby Smart, Geoff Collins and coach [Nick] Saban [why he chose Alabama]."
"They came in and did a good job with him. I think coach Saban just sold him, and then sold his mother more importantly. You know you've always got to recruit the mom. He did a good job with that, so things just worked out."
"They changed the offense at Georgia Tech. They were going to be more of a run team, but I think they just came in and sold their program."
"I talked to coach Collins the other day. They are going to try him at receiver. That's where his first shot is going to be. He's already enrolled there. He graduated early, so he's already in their weight program. He's going to get a head start on everybody."
Jackson was named 3A Offensive Player of the Year in the state of Georgia. Jackson was also named first-team All-State by the AJC and AP.
Jackson recorded 76 catches for 1,470 yards and 19 touchdowns during his senior season. He added five rushing touchdowns on offense and 91 tackles on defense.
Jackson finished his junior year with 45 catches (in nine games) for 800 yards and eight touchdowns. Defensively, he recorded seven interceptions with two returned for touchdowns.
Jackson is a very good receiver who can beat a defense a number of ways, especially deep. He has deceptive speed and is a long strider. Jackson runs good routes and has excellent body control, concentration and hands. Jackson doesn't mess around going East and West and is a North-South ball carrier all the way.
ScoutSouth.com's Rebecca Johnston contributed to this report.
