He is expected to return to full activities and be available for the upcoming collegiate basketball season.
“Number one, my first concern is Ron Steele and my hope is that he will be 100 percent at some point in the near future,” said Alabama head basketball coach Mark Gottfried. “It’s disappointing yet at the same time encouraging that hopefully this will give him a conclusion to this process.”
Alabama's basketball team is preparing for an exhibition series against four Canadian basketball teams in Ottawa over the Labor Day weekend. Steele had been ruled out of that competition. Previous reports have said he will be ready to begin practice in October.
Steele is an upcoming senior who was an all-star as a freshman and sophomore and a pre-season All-America last year before being sidelined with injuries.
His brother, upcoming Birmingham John Carroll basketball star Andrew Steele, recently committed to follow Ronald to Alabama.
