Alabama Coach Nick Saban was not specific regarding the injury to Brian Motley, saying only that it involved “a small bone.”
“I don’t think it’s a serious injury,” Saban said following Thursday’s practice. “He was at the doctor this morning. They’ll make a determination of what they do. It’s a small bone in his hand. Even if they have to do surgery, we have been told he will be out five to seven days.”
Saban added, “I don’t think we have any other (new) injuries.”
Motley was moved from the offensive line to the defensive line midway through spring practice and finished the spring working with the first defense at nose tackle. He is a redshirt freshman from Autaugaville. Motley is listed as 6-2 and 280 pounds.
Saban said that tailback Roy Upchurch was back in a white jersey. Upchurch, a 6-0, 192-pounder from Tallahassee, had been in a black “no contact” jersey through the first 14 practices of fall camp after having had summer shoulder surgery.
