Contract a Step Closer
Nick Saban

Posted Jun 13, 2007

It's been over six months since Nick Saban was introduced as the new head coach at the University of Alabama, so it's a fair question to ask when his contract will be inked.

Alabama Athletics Director Mal Moore indicated the contract was one step closer to being finalized on Wednesday, issuing a statement on the matter.

“The contract for head football Coach Nick Saban has been sent to the Board of Trustees for approval," Moore said.

Moore's statement said recruiting, spring football and coaching staff adjustments slowed the process, but now it appears everything has been finalized.

"We worked together to complete this agreement even as we proceeded with recruiting, Spring football practice and adjustments in the coaching staff, and we are pleased that it has been finalized,” he said.

Alabama has had controversy over its football coaches and contracts before, of course, increasing the level of public interest about when the final deal will be signed.

Mike Price had not inked his contract when he was fired, and Dennis Franchione left Tuscaloosa with an unsigned contract awaiting his approval.
