SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The young University of Alabama men’s track and field team saw their season come to and end today at the NCAA outdoor track and field national championships. The Tide brought three athletes to Sacramento and was not able to advance any of them in today’s events.

“I knew this would be a tough meet for us,” Alabama Coach Harvey Glance said. “The great thing is these three young guys got some experience. They are all eager for next year to start already.”

Freshman Tyler Boswell competed in his first NCAA Championships in the high jump. In the first round today he cleared the opening height of 6-08.75. It took all three jumps to reach the mark after barley missing on his first two attempts. He failed however to advance to the Friday’s finals. He finished 17 overall at his first NCAA national championships.

Sophomore Augustus Maiyo turned in a time of 8:45.76 in the 3,000 meter steeplechase, which was good for a ninth place finish in his heat and 17 overall. He missed advancing to Friday’s finals by less than three seconds.

Freshman Emmanuel Bor turned in a time of 14:39.90 in the 5,000 meter run, which placed him ninth in his heat. This was Bor’s second NCAA Championship as he also reached the NCAA championship in the indoor season.

“It has been a fine season,” Glance added. “We lost a lot of seniors from last years team and next year we should be a lot better.”
