Kimbro is in her 20th year at Alabama, joining the Crimson Tide’s staff in September 1987. The Dickson, Tenn., native started her career as a student trainer at Austin Peay State University where she was graduated with a bachelor degree of science in education in health and physical education in August 1979. She was a graduate assistant athletic trainer at Austin Peay State from 1979-81, earning her Masters degree in education in public and community health. Upon graduation, Kimbro was hired as assistant athletic trainer and head women’s trainer at the University of Miami. She left there in 1987 to become assistant athletic trainer at Alabama and was elevated to associate in 1994.
At Alabama Kimbro has worked with student-athletes from all of the Crimson Tide’s sports. She has also served as an instructor and presenter. Among the major national and international events she has worked are the 1996 Olympics where she was Chief Athletic Trainer for Indoor Volleyball, the 1991 Pan American Games in Havana, Cuba; the Junior USA vs. Canada Track and Field Championship in 2000, the IAAF World Junior Track and Field Championships in Kingston, Jamaica in 2002; and she traveled to Poland as the athletic trainer for the 2004 Athletes in Action women’s basketball touring team.
Kimbro’s many offices in her field include serving on the U.S. Olympic Sports Medicine Committee from 1987-91; secretary-treasurer of the Alabama State Association from 1992-96; representing the district and the State of Alabama in the Women Athletic Training Committee since 2003; and the Alabama Athletic Trainers Association, among others.
The 1975 graduate of Dickson County Senior High School has won several awards in her field prior to her induction into the hall of fame. In 1995 she won the Southeast Athletic Trainers’ Association’s District Award for her service and in 2001 SEATA recognized her again with its College Athletic Trainer Award. She received her 25-year award from SEATA in 2004 and won a National Athletic Trainers’ Association Service Award in 2005.
