Bama to Play Georgetown in Hoops

Posted Apr 5, 2007

The Alabama basketball team will play Georgetown in Birmingham next season as a part of the Southeastern Conference/Big East Invitational showdown, according to a press release from ESPN Thursday.

The game will take place on December 5, and will be part of four Big East/SEC games on December 5-6. In other games, Auburn will play West Virginia (also in Birmingham on December 5), South Carolina will play Providence and LSU will take on Villanova (those games will be in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on December 6).

Four different teams from each conference will be selected to participate for the next four years and the format will feature doubleheaders played at two off-campus sites.

Teams invited to participate in the Big East/SEC Invitational are chosen by ESPN in consultation with the conferences and are based on geographic and competitive criteria.

Ticket information and pricing will be available through either the Birmingham Jefferson Civic Center or the Wachovia Center in early July.
