It’s my understanding that everything went well and Ronald will begin rehab soon and that rehab will take eight to ten weeks,” said Alabama Head Coach Mark Gottfried following Ron Steele’s late afternoon surgery.
Steele, a native of Birmingham, suffered with a number of knee and ankle injuries through the season. He played very little and was far from the effective player he had been in two previous all-star seasons. He had gone into his junior year as a candidate for the Wooden Award, given to the nation’s top player.
Even though he was not able to perform to previous levels, Steele managed two game-winning shots, against Georgia and Mississippi State, as Alabama struggled to a 20-12 record.
