Mal Moore announces plan to share

The University of Alabama will use the upcoming A-Day Spring Football Game as an opportunity to raise funds for disaster relief to aid the citizens of Enterprise, victimized by a tornado on March 1. The fund-raising effort will consist of donation stations to be set up at points of entry to Bryant-Denny Stadium during the event slated for Saturday, April 21.

Alabama traditionally does not charge admission for the A-Day Game, making it a time when families who might not otherwise be able to see Alabama football and Bryant-Denny Stadium enjoy the event.

“Shortly after hearing of the tornado back on March 1, Coach (Nick) Saban approached me about creating an opportunity to directly help those victimized by the tragedy,” said UA Director of Athletics Mal Moore. “I thought it was a wonderful idea, and something I feel we are uniquely able to do with such a major event coming soon to our campus. After speaking with (UA President) Dr. (Robert E.) Witt, it became evident that this is something the entire University of Alabama family can unite behind to help those folks out. This is a chance for all of us to make a real positive difference for people in our state.”

The tornado did widespread damage, with Enterprise hit particularly hard. And, specifically, Enterprise High School took a direct hit from the tornado, resulting in the tragic deaths of five students.

Kickoff of the annual A-Day Game is slated for 1:05 p.m. CDT.
