Alabama is off to a 21-0 start to the 2007 season, the second best start in school history. The Tide has won four tournament championships and is one of just three undefeated teams remaining in the country, joining No. 1 Tennessee (20-0) and No. 5 Oklahoma (23-0). Alabama has never been ranked higher than third in the national rankings. Bama is No. 3 for the second straight week and was No. 3 for one week last season in the ESPN.com/USA softball poll. Alabama also climbed to third in 2001 when the Tide started the year 27-0.
The top three in this week’s poll remained the same with Tennessee in the top spot and Arizona ranked No. 2 at 14-3 on the season. Texas A&M moved up one spot to No. 4 and Oklahoma is making its first appearance in the top five.
The Tide will open up SEC play this weekend in Tuscaloosa as Alabama attempts to repeat as SEC champions. Bama will host Mississippi in the three-game series with a double header on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. and a single game Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
