Bama Lands Big 2008 Commitment

The University of Alabama landed a 2008 commitment Friday when Pickens County tight end Michael Williams gave his verbal pledge to the Crimson Tide.

"I committed to Alabama because it's close to home," said Michael Williams from Reform, (Ala.). "It's only 30 miles away. I like how there is someone like coach [Nick] Saban there who has been in the pros. I want to experience something like that."

"I decided I wanted to get my decision over with. I always knew that's where I wanted to go."

"They [Alabama coaching staff] said they were very excited about my commitment. They think it's the right decision, and they can't wait to get me over there."

Williams is a big prospect standing 6-6, 240-pounds. He stars as a tight end and defensive end for Pickens County.

Pickens County defeated Southern Choctaw in basketball in the Sub-Region game Friday in Reform.

Williams plans to attend all the Alabama games in the fall and will attend Tide's Junior Day February 24.
