Marquis Maze Will Wear Crimson

Scout.com three-star receiver Marquis Maze, from Tarrant, (Ala.), announced his college decision at his high school Wednesday afternoon. The super athlete signed his letter of intent for the University of Alabama.

"I like the atmosphere, the coaches and the players at Alabama," Marquis Maze.

Maze chose to stay in-state over scholarship offers from Miami and Tennessee. He took official visits to all three schools before making his final decision.

He played in only six games as a senior, but was electrifying in recording 1,300 yards and 15 touchdowns.

"As long as he is playing you're in the game," said head coach Donny Rogers. "No matter if he is playing on the offensive side, the defensive side or special teams. He was liable to score at anytime. He would take a pass and run it in for touchdown any time."

Rogers talked in-depth with Scout.com Tuesday afternoon about Maze's strengths and what he needs to improve before reaching the next level.

"He is explosive. A lot of players are quick. A lot of players have a good 40-time, but he has a great top end speed too. I am interested to see what he runs the 100 meters in. He has that extra gear. If he sees you, you're not going to tackle him," Rogers said.

"He has really big hands for a little guy. He needs to get in the weight room and get some bulk on him. I think he will be able to step in wherever he goes, and play immediately."

"He has wanted to play big-time college football for so long. I think he will play next year. No matter if it's punt return or kick return I know he can do that right now. I look for him at receiver. I think he will play receiver right away."

Maze is a great addition to Alabama's 2007 signing class. He becomes the final receiver of the class that includes Scout.com four-star Brandon Gibson and three-star Darius Hanks.
