Luther Davis to Roll with the Tide
"I have made a solid verbal commitment to Alabama," said Luther Davis from West Monroe, (Louis.). "I committed because of opportunity. I was real nervous when I went on my visit because I was an LSU commitment, but I am glad I took my visit." "Alabama provides me with the best opportunity over the next four to five years. I have no regrets about my decision." Alabama head coach Nick Saban was a big reason for the lineman's change of heart and to de-commit from LSU. "My relationship with coach Saban has grown because of the kind of person he is," Davis said. "I believe in what he is trying to do at Alabama. He has the same goals that he had when he first went to LSU, and I want to be a part of that." "I don't want to be a part of the school that just won a national championship or the Sugar Bowl. I want to be a part of the team that is working to win the national championship. I want people to look at the sacrifice I made to come to Alabama and to be happy 30 years down the road that I did." "They want me as a defensive end due to my size. He plays his defensive ends at 260-270 pounds. I am about 267-pounds right now. I am still running a 4.7-forty. I am trying to knock that forty down before I get to Alabama." The U.S. Army All-American is finished with his recruitment. He turns his focus on a few in-state players he hopes will join him in Tuscaloosa. "There is without a doubt I am going to start recruiting for Alabama," Davis said. "I am going to get guys like Joe McKnight, Ahmad Paige and Rolando Melancon to come to Alabama. They can all help change the program into what it needs to be." "My focus right now is to change those guys mind about the other schools and to come to Alabama. I am coming up there next weekend for an unofficial visit. I want the guys to feel comfortable there and know that it is okay to leave the state." "Not a million years would I have ever thought I would be going to Alabama. I never thought this would happen. My visit was great. Actually my favorite movie growing up was Forrest Gump. So it's kind of funny that that's where I am going now."
