"Nick Saban has decided not to return to the Dolphins," Huizenga said. "I met with Nick and his wife at his home this morning. There’s a lot of reasons why decisions get made in life but the net is he’s not coming back. He’ll be leaving this afternoon going to Alabama."
Saban agreed to leave the Miami Dolphins to become the new head coach of the University of Alabama football team, and was making his way to a South Florida airport in order to fly to Tuscaloosa, according to several media reports Wednesday morning.
It was also reported that Saban had conducted a conference call with his Miami coaching staff to tell them he was leaving for Alabama.
Saban's name had been linked with the job almost from the moment the decision to fire Shula was announced. Saban mostly evaded reporters' questions about him and Alabama, but before his last game with the Dolphins, he did at one time say "I guess I have to say it - I am not going to be the Alabama coach."
Huizenga said, "No, I am not upset, because it is more involved than you think. They're moving on to Alabama and all of us here at the Dolphins, we want the best for Nick."
