Jimmy Barnes suffered knee injury in practice

Alabama interim head football coach confirmed this morning that redshirt freshman quarterback Jimmy Barnes (Los Alamitos, Calif.) suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament on his left knee, which will require surgery.

Jimmy Barnes suffered the non-contact injury during practice on Saturday, December 2 and will not be available when Alabama meets Oklahoma State in the 2006 PetroSun Independence Bowl on Thursday, December 28 in Shreveport, La.

He played in two games this season and completed 6 of 11 passes for 45 yards and one touchdown.

Following surgery, Barnes will rehab for four to six months, which will force him to miss spring practice and the annual A-Day football game this spring. He should be fully recovered in time for fall camp next August.
