Marcus Udell, from Tallahassee-Godby, (Fla.) decided Thursday night where he wanted to play college football. Udell gave his verbal commitment to the University of Alabama.

"I told the Alabama coaching staff last night [Thursday] I was committed to them," said Marcus Udell. "They wanted me to sleep on to make sure I made the right decision. I woke up feeling really good about Alabama. I called the coaches today around noon and told them I was firmly committed."

"It was a tough decision for me. LSU and Maryland both recruited be very hard. They would not have been bad choices for me. I am very happy with my decision, and I feel like I have made the right choice."

The Godby defensive star has several reasons for choosing the Crimson Tide.

"My official visit to Alabama was really nice," Udell said. "I really like the coaches and the defense. Alabama was a little bit more serious about me than LSU and Maryland. I feel like they needed me."

"Alabama basically had everything I could ask for. They had the No. 2 total defense in the country. They play in the SEC, and the drive from Tallahassee is only about five hours."

The Alabama coaching staff made a strong impression with the Scout.com three-star corner back.

"The coaches are great," Udell said. "I am excited about playing in coach Joe Kines' defense. He is a great defensive coach. I like coach [Chris] Ball. He seems like a really nice coach. Coach [Mike] Shula seems very nice as well. He is a young coach. I feel he is going to be at Alabama for a long time."

Former teammate and Alabama red-shirt freshman running back Roy Upchurch didn't influence Udell to commit to Alabama, but he said, "Having Roy at Alabama was a big plus for me. It's going to be a lot of fun to play with him again. He never once tried to influence me in any way. He always told me I needed to go to the best school that fits me."

Grades have been a corcern for Udell, but he stated, "I am trying to get my ACT score up a couple points. I am very close to making it in. I am sure I will qualify. I am going to get to Alabama as soon as I can. Hopefully, I will be up there early in the summer."

Udell had an impressive senior season as he recorded 50 tackles, 18 pass break-ups and eight interceptions. He knows he must continue to work hard to make the same type of impact in college as he did in high school.

"The thing that separates me from other corners is that I am very physical," said Udell. "I have good size at 5-11, 186 pounds. I like to match-up against receivers, and I aggressive."

"The two things I will continue to work on before getting to Alabama--my speed and conditioning. I know I have to be in great shape by the time I get there," Udell concluded.
