"Prothro has an open fracture on both bones, the tibia and the fibula. He'll probably miss the rest of the season," Alabama Head Coach Mike Shula said. "It leaves you with an empty feeling to see the nature of the injury. My heart goes out to him. He's been a big impact in every game, even if he doesn't touch the ball. It was good to see him have a great game but said to see the injury."
Prothro had 154 all-purpose yards and two touchdowns in the win. He had five catches for 134 yards and two touchdowns, both career highs. He scored on Alabama’s first offensive play of the game on an 87-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Brodie Croyle.
“Losing Tyrone Prothro - our prayers are with him," Croyle said. "This is a tough deal. I know what he’s fixing to go through.”
The injury came on a fourth-and-five play with less than nine minutes to play in the game.
Shula said he didn't want to let up against Florida's fast-break offense.
“You watch the (LSU-Tennessee) game Monday night, you never know what’s going to happen. We’re playing against a fast-break type offense where every play we’re sweating it out to try to make first downs and keep their offense off the field. We were moving the ball and it was a fourth down play and we were trying to make a play,” Shula said.
