Florida Coach Urban Meyer called Alabama’s Brodie Croyle “an NFL quarterback,” and the Tide’s talented senior had an excellent day in the Crimson Tide’s 31-3 win over the Gators at Bryant-Denny Stadium Saturday.

Alabama quarterback Brodie Croyle completed 14 of 17 passes for 283 yards and three touchdowns and did not suffer an interception against Florida.

Tyrone Prothro, who suffered a season-ending injury when he broke his leg late in the fourth quarter, had five receptions for 134 yards and two touchdowns. Le’Ron McClain had three catches for 40 yards and Keith Brown two receptions for 83 yards, including one touchdown.

Halfback Kenneth Darby didn’t get to touch the ball on Bama’s first two possessions, but finished up with 15 carries for 101 yards and two pass receptions for 22 yards. Jimmy Johns had eight carries for 25 yards.

Jeremy Schatz punted four times for a 41.8 average with a long of 47.

Alabama had 17 first downs (6 rushing, 8 passing, 3 by penalty) to 15 for Florida (7 rush, 8 pass).

Bama had 37 rushes for 121 yards and Florida 31 runs for 139 (the longest a 32-yard run by Earl Everett on a trick play from punt formation.

Alabama completed 15 of 18 passes for 286 yards. Florida completed 16 of 37 passes for 187 yards. Bama had three touchdowns and no interceptions, the Gators no touchdowns and two interceptions.

The Tide had 55 plays for 407 yards, an average of 7.4 yards per play. The Gators had 68 plays for 326 yards, an average of 4.8 yards per play.

Florida did not lose its lone fumble. Alabama lost two of three.

Bama was penalized eight times for 60 yards and Florida nine times for 85 yards.

Alabama was good on five of 12 third down conversions, Florida four of 16.

Alabama had a slight edge in time of possession, 31:07 to 28:53.

DeMeco Ryans was in on nine tackles (five primary, four assists), including one-and-a-half sacks for 12 yards. Roman Harper was in on eight tackles (six primary).
