Ross Impressed

David Ross one of South's best

Homewood offensive lineman David Ross watched Alabama defeat Arkansas in Bryant-Denny Stadium Saturday and said afterwards that he was "impressed." Ross is the subject of a hot recruiting battle between Alabama and Auburn, and the Crimson Tide seems to have made important points.

"It was awesome," said David Ross. "I had a blast down there. I was really impressed with the leadership Alabama showed after Arkansas blocked the punt. There were a lot of young players who really stepped up. It was just awesome. The only word I can think of is ‘Impressive.'

"Alabama is beating the crap out of people. A few things went wrong, but I never thought for one second they would lose the game. I am loving it. Everything is happening that I hoped would happen. They are punishing people. Everything down there is great. The campus life is awesome. I have a lot of friends down there, and I met a lot of new people down there this weekend. I am really impressed with everything," Ross added.

The state's number three ranked offensive lineman, behind Huffman's André Smith and Colbert County's Jermarcus Ricks, spoke with the Alabama coaches as well as several other prospects.

"I talked to all of the coaches before and after the game," Ross said. "They were happy about the win, but they talked about all the negatives. All coaches do that. I spoke to Taylor Pharr, Bryan Motley and Reginald Stokes down on the sideline. I didn't really see any other big name guys. All the big-time prospects will be in Tuscaloosa for the Florida game. I know I will be there."

Ross tripped to Gainesville and watched the ballyhooed match-up between Florida and Tennessee.

"I didn't really have a good time down there," Ross said about his unofficial visit to Florida. "I went down there to make sure I didn't want to go to Florida. Florida is out of it. It was a big cluster down there. There were over 300 prospects in attendance. It was ridiculous. It is nothing like Alabama or Auburn."

There is no time-table for his decision, but there is a chance Ross will make his commitment within the next few weeks.

"I really don't know when I will make my decision," he said. "I am trying to take it day-by-day. I am trying to balance my recruitment with my football season. The good thing is neither Alabama or Auburn is rushing me at all."

"I feel like I am getting really close. The Alabama visit went great this weekend. It's still pretty much even right now," Ross added.

Ross is enjoying an exciting senior season albeit with limited action in the second half. Homewood is blowing out opponents in the first half, and the starters are getting a chance to rest before the bigger games towards the end of the season.

"I think I played two series in the second half on Friday night against Hueytown," he said. "We are doing really good so most of the starters are getting a chance to relax. Our three toughest games are going to be at the end of the season. We play Benjamin Russell, Briarwood, and Vestavia. I think our biggest game of the year, in my opinion, is Vestavia. They have beaten us the past two years. It's at Vestavia, and it's their homecoming. I can't wait to go lay it on them. We play at Valley this week. It's like two-and-a-half hours away. I want to go down to Tuscaloosa on Friday night. I might sleep in the bus on the way back, and then drive down there."
