Trent Davidson is expected to be out for six weeks after surgery on his right foot, an athletic department statement said Friday.

Sophomore tight end Trent Davidson (Brewton) will miss the opening of fall football practice Tuesday after a procedure to repair a fracture of a bone in his right foot.

Davidson had been bothered by a fracture in the fifth metatarsal of his right foot. The surgery was performed by Dr. Les Fowler at DCH Regional Medical Center.

Alabama tight end coach Dave Ungerer said Thursday that Nick Walker would begin fall practice as the first-string tight end.

The surgical procedure consisted of placing a screw across the fracture site to stabilize the injury. Davidson is expected to be out four to six weeks with the injury.

Davidson played in all 12 games as a true freshman in 2004 and earned starts in the final two games of the season against Auburn and Minnesota. He did not have a catch.

The Alabama football team will report on Monday, Aug. 8 and the first day of practice is Tuesday, Aug. 9.
