Priorities Straight

J.D. Douglas is one of the best safety prospects in the South. The South Hot 100 member has not attended any summer camps due to a summer job, but schools throughout the South are continuing to show strong interest in the Prattville High School all-star.

"It’s still basically all the same schools recruiting me (Alabama, Louisville, Clemson, Mississippi State, and Southern Miss)," said J.D. Douglas, a member of the South Hot 100. "Louisville is still the only school who has offered me. I have been receiving a lot of interest from Florida State. They called me a lot during the spring. I have been staying in touch with them this summer."

Monday and Tuesday, Prattville hosted a 7v7 passing tournament that brought several local teams to the playing field against the 6A powerhouse. "The tournament ended yesterday," Douglas said. "We won all of the games. Teams like Autaugaville, Marbury, and Stanhope Elmore all participated. I felt like I did really good. I had three interceptions on the first day, and I did good the next day as well."

Douglas remains steadfast with his favorite school. When asked Douglas replied, "Alabama is still my favorite. They will always be my favorite. They are still showing interest in me, but I haven’t talked to them lately."

Unfortunately for Douglas, the Crimson Tide has not offered at this point. A lot of college coaches want prospects in their summer camps before extending a scholarship offer. Personal situations take priority in a lot of families, and summer camps are not the main focus.  

"I have been unable to attend any camps this summer," Douglas said. "My mom is unemployed. I have been working a job trying to help her out. I probably won’t be able to go anywhere this summer. Hopefully, I will be able to attend several games this fall."

In Prattville’s spring game against Hoover, the scored ended in a tie. Hoover defeated Prattville in last year’s state championship game, and the Lions are looking for revenge. 

Douglas said, "I don’t think, I know we are going to be back this year. It’s mine and Tim’s (Rawlinson) last year. I am very confident in our team. We are going to win the state championship. We have been working really hard this summer. I have bulked up about six pounds. I am now 206 pounds."
