Mike Shula has dismissed 2004 signee and rising sophomore Curtis Dawson from the Alabama football team, an athletic department press release sent out Friday afternoon said.

Curtis Dawson, a 6-1, 274-pound defensive tackle from Hoover, previously faced internal disciplinary measures prior to the start of spring practice in February.

The reason given for Dawson's dismissal was listed only as "violation of team policy."

Dawson played a total of 19 snaps in three games as a true freshman in 2004, missing a chance for a redshirt year.

Dawson was not eligible for Alabama's trip to Nashville for the Music City Bowl, presumably for academic reasons.

Dawson becomes the second Class-of-2004 defensive line signee to leave the team. Chris Turner quit following the 2004 season.
